Question 1

Who needs the GQA CSCS Labourer Card?

Accepted Answer

If you are looking for a job on a construction site, you will need a CSCS card. The GQA CSCS Labourer Card provides access to construction sites for those new to the industry, starting out as labourers. Please check before you book to ensure the Labourer card is right for you. Following the CSCS Scheme changes of February 2025, the first Labourer card is valid for 2 years - all future renewals are valid for 5 years.

Question 2

What is the GQA CSCS Labourer Card?

Accepted Answer

The GQA CSCS Green Card is issued by CSCS on behalf of GQA Qualifications, a member of the CSCS Alliance, and sent by CSCS directly to you by post. We are a longstanding GQA Approved training provider and testing centre - our audits prove that year on year.

Question 3

Is this course approved?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The course leads to the GQA Level 1 Award in Construction Health & Safety, regulated by Ofqual and awarded by GQA Qualifications, the CSCS Alliance card scheme partner. During the course you complete multiple-choice assessments in each section, and you need a pass mark of 80% in all 5 sections. On successful completion we make the claim for certification and you receive your Level 1 Award certificate.

Accepted Answer

1. Attend the one-day course at our Queensbury centre - arrive 9:15, course starts 9:30.
2. Take and pass the GQA Health & Safety test the same afternoon - results the same day.
We take care of the rest: we administer your card application, and your card is issued by CSCS at GQA Qualifications' request and sent by CSCS directly to you by post, usually within 7 days.

Question 5

How do I register?

Accepted Answer

Choose your preferred Friday and book online. You will automatically receive your booking confirmation with everything you need for the day - what to bring, arrival time (9:15 for pre-course procedures) and directions to the centre. Weekend courses are available on request.

Question 6

What will I earn after passing?

Accepted Answer

1. Your first GQA CSCS Labourer Card, valid for 2 years - all future renewals are valid for 5 years. Your QR code details reach you within days and you'll see your digital card on your phone as soon as it is printed.
2. The GQA Level 1 Award in Construction Health & Safety certificate (Ofqual, 4 credits) - it never expires, and you use the same certificate for every card renewal, with no added costs. Renewal of the Labourer card requires a declaration of employment as a labourer - we'll guide you when the time comes.

Question 24

What happens if I need to take the CITB HS&E Test for Specialists, Supervisors or Managers and professionals and my English is not very good?

Accepted Answer

These CITB HS&E tests are only available in English with an English Voiceover. The specialist tests comprise of the general questions as in the Operatives Test and a special set of questions for the specific specialist test. You can check with Pearson Vue if you can sit the specific test which you need with a translator. Please be aware waiting times can be much longer. The contact details are: the Special Assistance team 0344 994 4491 or email citb.additionalsupport@pearson.com (please note evidence may be required to approve your request). Additional information can be found here . What we as a team recommend is that on the CITB app you set the language which is your native language if it is one of the languages available for Voiceover and you practice the test looking carefully at the questions. Only the specialist questions are not available for you while you practice with a voiceover. It will help you familiarize yourself better with the questions, especially if written English is the struggle to you, but you can communicate well in English. Then we recommend you concentrate on the Specialist section of questions which you will see and hear in English Only so you will be prepared 100% for the test. We do recommend that you pass at least 6-8 mock tests in this case before the day of the actual test in this situation and allow 23 weeks to revise before sitting the CITB Health and Safety Test at our centre. Please beware that the specialist tests, Supervisor tests, Managers and Professionals Tests are available with voiceover only in English in the actual test, so you will read the questions in English and can hear them in the voiceover in English.
