For employers

Your workforce, qualified. Your bids, stronger. Your site, compliant.

Main contractors check cards at the gate and clients score competence at tender. We qualify your workforce without taking it off the job - one-day Green Card group days at your venue, NVQs from skilled trades to senior management assessed from the work your people already do, and invigilated testing brought to you, anywhere in the UK.

HPL Centre is a GQA Qualifications Approved Centre (00467) and CITB Approved Internet Test Centre. Employers verify every card with the CSCS Smart Check app - cards are issued by the scheme following successful completion and approval.

The number most employers don't know

NVQ Level 2 qualification fee£650
CITB Short Qualification Grant−£600
Net cost per qualified worker£50

Prices exclude VAT. The grant is claimed back by eligible CITB levy-registered employers who are up to date with Levy Returns, paid after the qualification is achieved - not a discount off the invoice. We'll confirm your eligibility before you commit.

International contractors

Winning work in the UK from abroad? We get your teams site-ready.

An international contractor landing a UK package faces a wall most domestic firms never see: unfamiliar card schemes, qualification rules that don't map to home-country ones, and a main contractor who won't let anyone through the gate without them. We do something few centres can - we take that wall down. UK-recognised NVQs, Health & Safety testing and CSCS card applications, delivered as one programme, at your site or ours, sequenced so your people are carded when your contract needs them on the tools.

Our team speak English, Romanian, Polish, Spanish and Portuguese - and we know first-hand what it means to arrive in a new country with a contract to deliver. German, Italian, Romanian, Polish, Brazilian, Spanish, Austrian and Belgian subcontractor teams have qualified, tested and carded with us, guided through the paperwork, the site culture and everything that's different about building in Britain.

On sites across the UK

Where our candidates work

From skyscrapers and high-spec commercial builds to new-build housing and private villas - from groundworkers in Edinburgh to finishing trades in Westminster - the people we train, assess and card are on projects across the whole spectrum of UK construction, and the craftsmanship we encounter never stops fascinating us.

We've assessed and tested candidates working on major infrastructure schemes such as HS2 and Hinkley Point C, on large-scale urban regeneration programmes, and on commercial and new-build developments delivered by the UK's biggest names.

Our candidates' sites have included projects by

Mace · Balfour Beatty · VINCI Construction · Morgan Sindall Group · Kier Group

Sites run by these contractors check every card at the gate. Ours pass - that's the point.

Building Safety Act 2022

Bidding for contracts? Competence is now a tender question.

The Building Safety Act 2022 defines competence as the right Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours (SKEB) - and main contractors and clients increasingly ask for the evidence at tender stage, then check it at the gate with Smart Check. A qualified, carded workforce is no longer a nice-to-have; it scores.

01

The gap review

We review your workforce's cards and qualifications against the roles they actually perform - and tell you plainly where the gaps are, before a client finds them.

02

The upgrade plan

Green Cards for new labourers, Blue for your skilled trades, Gold for the people running gangs, Black for your managers - sequenced around your programme, not against it.

03

The records

Enrolment to card, administered and tracked in one place, with reporting you can hand to a client or auditor. One centre, one point of contact.
